Betjemann Coromandel Games Compendium

A fabulous, extremely rare, Betjemann Coromandel and brass mounted games compendium with an intertwined sterling silver monogram on the top dated 23rd of October 1892.
The interior is veneered in satinwood, incorporating an ivory and coromandel chess and backgammon board held in the lid.
The top hinged trays contain ivory Staunton pattern chess pieces left natural and stained red, four ivory “finger” pointers, dice and red stained and natural chequers.
The middle tier hinged trays contain four sets of complete Goodall & Son playing cards and counters. The back edge of each tray has a brass button, which when pressed, opens two hidden drawers containing further counters and cards.
The bottom tray features twelve lead “Escalado” riders on horseback, further counters, ivory dominoes and shakers. To the back of the box is a removable rack which contains four more decks of Goodall & Son playing cards. Behind this is a chequers board with an “Escalado” track on the reverse.
