Pair of Georgian Knife Boxes

Email to a Friend
Materials:
WOOD
Age:
1800
Dimensions:
L 9” x D 15” x H 15.5”

Description

An exquisite pair of Georgian Knife / Cutlery Boxes in Mahogany with unique ebony oak leaf carved detail on the front panel of each box. On the sloped lids there is an oval shell inlay.

In the past knife boxes were displayed on a sideboard to reflect the wealth of the owners and would make an elegant accessory to any setting today.

Although normally referred to as "Knife Box" the beautifully shaped lids open to reveal the cutlery decks in which there are apertures to fit almost any kind of culinary knives, forks, and spoons. The pair of “Knife Boxes” are equipped to hold twenty four knives, forty eight forks ( including dining and dessert) and forty two different size spoons. This indicates that the “Knife Boxes” could have been previously part of the accessories of a large Stately House.

Each Cutlery box comes complete with fully working lock and tasselled keys
