Description

A Rare Souvenir Urn-shaped Tea Caddy celebrating the Industrial Revolution. Not only rare, the Caddy is a fantastic example of early Transfer Ware. On the top of the hinged lid is a picture of the steamship Maria Anna. It's believed that the ship sailed on the river Danube on the route from Vienna to Linz, as early as 1837.

The front of the caddy shows a quaint scene set on the River, of a Gentleman, his Lady and her Lady-in-waiting. Depicting great gallantry it appears he is helping the Lady onto or off the boat. To the back of the caddy is a railway scene showing people, horses & a Steam Train, a lovely depiction of a bygone era.

This Tea Caddy retains most of its original lead lining and is from the same family as the more familiar fruit-shaped examples, such as pears, apples and melon tea caddies.

This wonderful souvenir Urn Tea Caddy Comes with its original key.

A delightful item with an interesting history.
